Cheap Airline Tickets

Finding cheap airline tickets can be frustrating.

Just as you hand over your credit card to a travel agent, you suddenly discover a much better deal elsewhere. Before you head to the high street or an online broker, check the travel search engines and see what they can find for you.

HALO Skydiving

A friend of mine keeps talking about going HALO skydiving later this year and I keep feigning interest, as if I know what he is talking about.

I don’t!

So, I figured I’d better learn more before I commit myself to something I don’t want to do ;-)

HALO stands for High Altitude Low Opening, and was a skydiving technique that originated in the 1960s when the US Air Force were looking for a method pilots could use to eject at high altitudes. It became a method of military infiltration to avoid detection.

In the civilian world of the adrenalin seeker, HALO jumps are normally performed in tandem with an instructor from between 15 to 30 thousand feet, although solo jumps are possible with the right experience and training. Thr thrill for the participant is the rush of the much longer freefall time.

Hmm, might give HALO Skydiving a miss!

Cheap Student Travel – Let the Adventures Begin!

Finding cheap student travel is actually a simple process.

Most travel companies and airlines offer discounts to students, and there are many adventure travel companies who cater specifically for students. All you need to be able to do is prove you are a student (and in some cases only that you are under 26). Being able to travel at quiet times of the year will also help.

What are Adventure Cruises?

Any cruise vacation can be nice, but what if you are looking for more than nice? What if you want to add adjectives like “unforgettable,” “exotic,” “enchanting,” and “utterly unique” to your vacation description?

Adventure cruises are for people who want a thrill on their vacation, who want to live life to the fullest, and who want to avoid the canned vacations that their friends and neighbors have already tried. Adventure cruise packages are tailored to your individual tastes. They include thrills like mountain biking through a tropical jungle, diving to reefs few other humans have seen, rafting through crashing white water, and climbing towering waterfalls. Of course, quieter activities like picnicking on a deserted beach, midnight swims, and fresh-cooked meals balance the mix.

As mentioned before, don’t rule out a cruise for an adventure holiday, just because you think they are for senior citizens and honeymooners!

Adventure Hen Weekend Part II

Well, the hen weekend at the outward bound centre has been and gone and we had a great time. I’ll post some photos asap of the canoeing/kayaking and gully scrambling. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something different to do for a hen weekend.

Adventure Travel…Cruises?

I was thinking the other day that you can take just about any style of holiday and turn it into an adventure. Bold words, I hear you cry!

Take a cruise. You might think it is just hours of endless boredom onboard a ship with geriatrics playing shuffleboard. Well, you'd be wrong.

5 years ago my (now ex) husband and I went on a cruise. He had won it in a competition so we were kind of excited at the idea of a free holiday (especially as we didn't have much cash) but a bit tentative as we always thought cruises were for retirees who wanted to take it easy.

It was a pleasant surprise to discover that at every stop of our 7 day Caribbean cruise (there were 4 ports of call in total) we could participate in any one of a list of acitivities. It was even nicer to get on board and discover people of all ages and backgrounds – families, single-sex college groups on holiday, honeymooners, an online singles group, and of course the retirees. We didn't have much extra money to pay for excursions but we managed to have a day snorkeling, swimmming with stingray and A LOT of exploring on foot.

On board wasn't as boring as we expected either. There was always something being organised for those who didn't want to find a lounger and take it easy. And, naturally, with it being an all-inclusive cruise, there was endless food to be eaten.

A few years later, when we had a bit more money, we booked another cruise 'cos we'd enjoyed it so much. This time we planned to go for 14 days and try sea kayaking, horse riding, climbing waterfalls, scuba diving, and several other exciting activities. Unfortunately, it never happened but maybe another time.

Certainly don't rule out a cruise as a holiday just because you think it will be boring, I can promise you it won't be – unless you make it that way.

What Next?

I need a new adventure but there's nothing on the horizon at the moment, so I am playing a favorite game of planning where and what the next adventure will be. I definitely want to head back to Australia and see Western Australia. I'd also like to do a big tour of New Zealand. But then I saw some Polynesian dancing the other night and it made me wish I could go back to the Solomon Islands (I know, they are Melanesian) and also explore some more of the Pacific.

All that amounts to one very BIG TRIP, so definitely on hold for the time being.

Meanwhile, I go back to dreaming in front of my computer…pretending to work!
